Evaluation of Varying Doses of Pergonal on Seminal, Haematology and Serum Minerals of Adult Rabbits

Abstract

The responses of 24 adult male rabbits treated with different doses of pergonal on seminal, haematology and electrolyte indices were studied for 84 days. The rabbits were divided into three experimental groups of eight rabbits and replicated twice with four rabbits constituting a replicate in a completely randomized design. A vial of pergonal was dissolved in 1ml of saline and assigned to each experimental designated as T1 (0.0ml), T2 (6.0iµ) and T3(12.0 iµ). Data on seminal, haematology and electrolytes indices were collected and evaluated. The result revealed that apart from semen volume, all the seminal indices evaluated showed significant (p < 0.05) difference. PCV and MCV were also significant (p < 0.05). PCV tended to be better and higher for the control group. However, all serum minerals studied were significantly (p < 0.05) influenced by the pergonal doses. From the results of this study, it was concluded that, on the account of fertility, blood formation and serum electrolyte, pergonal could be used to enhance rabbit production. This experiment revealed that 6.00 iµ doses of pergonal should be recommended for enhanced haematological and seminal indices, while 12.0iµ pergonal doses for better electrolytes indices.
