Abstract

A series of N-formyl pyrazolines (4a-l) were prepared by treating 1,3-diarylpropenones(3a-l)with hydrazine hydrate and acetic acid at reflux condition. 1,3-diarylpropenones (3a-k) were obtained by treating 4-methylthio benzaldehyde and arylketone in the presence of 10% NaOH and ethanol. The structures of newly synthesized compounds are characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR and mass spectroscopic studies and screened for their antimicrobial activities. The preliminary results revealed that some of the compounds exhibited promising antimicrobial activities.
