Abstract


MnL1,CuL1,CoL1,NiL1,CrL1,FeL1 and ZnL1 (L1 =[2,4,6-trihydroxy phenyl] Imidazo[4,5] 1,10-phenanthroline),MnL2,CuL2,CoL2,NiL2,CrL2,FeL2 and ZnL2 (L2 = (5-Bromo,3-Methoxy Phenyl) Imidazo [4,5] 1,10- Phenanthroline), MnL3,CuL3,CoL3,NiL3,CrL3,FeL3 and ZnL3 (L3=2,4,6-trifluro phenyl Imidazo [4,5] 1,10-phenanthroline), MnL4,CuL4,CoL4,NiL4,CrL4,FeL4 and ZnL4 (L4=4-ethyl phenyl Imidazo[4,5] 1,10-phenanthroline), MnL5,CuL5,CoL5,NiL5,CrL5,FeL5 and ZnL5 (L5=4-hydroxy,3,5-dimethyl phenyl Imidazo[4,5] 1,10-phenanthroline) complexes were synthesized. L1, L2,L3,L4 and L5 ligands were prepared by the condensation of 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione with 2,4,6-Trihydroxy benzaldehyde, 5-Bromo,3-methoxy benzaldehyde ,2,4,6-Trifluro Benzaldehyde,4-Ethyl Benzaldehyde,4-Hydroxy 3,5-dimethyl Benzaldehyde respectively. The structures of the compounds were determined by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Visible, 1H-NMR and Mass Spectra. Antibacterial activity of the ligands and their metal complexes were tested against selected bacteria by disc diffusion method.
